Kratom is a substance that has been around for quite some time, but more recently it's showing up everywhere. This is due to improper marketing and advertising, listing it as a "functional tonic". It's being sold in powder, capsule and now small, bottled liquid forms at gas stations, convenience stores and smoke shops. Many people are told it's a "natural energy boost" or a safer alternative, but the truth is much more complicated. 

Some forms of Kratom can act like an opioid in the body, especially in higher doses. What they aren't telling you is that this can lead to dependence and very strong withdrawal symptoms, especially when the active ingredient is what's actually called, 7-OH.
